The next stop on my list was Zurich in Switzerland. Planned was Bern, but I decided to change the destination. Luckily it was the right decision, because there was a big party in Zurich that weekend that I didn’t know about.
First a few words about Zurich.
Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and is located in the north-central part of the country. Known for its picturesque Old Town, stunning lake and mountain views, and strong economy, it is a popular destination for both tourists and business travelers. The city has a rich history and culture, with numerous museums, galleries, and festivals throughout the year. It is also home to several major banks and international companies, making it an important financial center in Europe. With its excellent transportation connections, Zurich is a gateway to the rest of Switzerland and the rest of Europe.
Currency
The Swiss franc (Schweizer Franken) is the currency of Switzerland. You can exchange the money e.g. at the main train station, where you will find an exchange office.
Safety
Switzerland and within Zurich are very safe places.
Public transportation
Zurich’s public transport network is one of the most efficient and reliable in the world.
In very central position is the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) located. You can reach most of the city by foot. I used the public train (S-Bahn) to get from my accommodation to the main station and further the Tram (Line 11) to get to the Lake Zurich (Bürkliplatz).
The City Card Städtekarte Zürich entitles you to travel on all public transport in Zürich and is valid for 24 or 72 hours. You can also buy tickets for 1 or 24 hours (day tickets) for different zones. Tickets and day passes can be purchased at the ticket machines at every stop, at the airport or at Zurich Main Station.

A Weekend in Zurich
I usually write a lot about the sights of a city I’ve visited, but this time a major event interfered with my plans. When I arrived in Zurich, I was already wondering about the many people dressed up in the middle of summer. Then I saw the posters and that this weekend the Street Parade takes place in Zurich. Great I thought, finally a little action.
Lake Zurich
In the morning everything was still quiet, so I used the time to take a boat tour on Lake Zurich to enjoy the view of the city and the surrounding mountains.
Lake Zurich, which is a large lake located in the north of the city and is surrounded by the beautiful Swiss Alps. The lake offers many recreational activities such as swimming, sailing and paddleboarding.

Departure of the ship was at Bürkliplatz. The ride lasted 1 hour. There were also shorter and longer trips, but I did not want to miss the beginning of the parade.
Street Parade Zurich
Arrived back at the pier, the whole streets were full of people. In the crowd moved slowly trucks as so-called Love Mobiles from which techno music droned. In front of the stages crowded the people. It was just a huge party.

But what is the Street Parade actually?
The Street Parade is an annual techno music festival that takes place in Zurich, Switzerland. It is one of the largest techno events in the world and attracts thousands of visitors each year. The festival takes place in August and features a parade of decorated trucks, floats and buses, which travel through the city center playing loud techno music. The parade is accompanied by dancers and performers and is followed by a large open-air party at the end of the parade route.
The Street Parade is known for its positive, peaceful atmosphere, and the event promotes a message of unity and love. The event also features food, drinks, and merchandise vendors to cater to the visitors. It is a must-see event for techno music fans and party-goers in Zurich.
